Hello, I'm Laura...
and I'm a practicing artist and the Community Programs Coordinator at the Philbrook Museum of Art located in Tulsa, Oklahoma. I began working at the Philbrook back in 2010 as a part time teaching assistant where I would help in the education studios under family and children programming. A year later my job responsibilities expanded and I began assisting adult programming, special community events, and occasional office work. After graduating in May 2013 from Oral Roberts University with a bachelor degree in fine arts I achieved a full time Education Assistant job position at the museum. Under the direction of Jessimi Jones, Bersen Director of Education & Public Programs, my personal learning of art, art education, museum education, and education in general further developed. Since entering the Education Assistant job position my mind has been opened to new and old ideas of education, creativity and the civic responsibility artists and arts organizations/ businesses have to enrich the people in their community. Through this extended learning and pursuit of excellence in my position I have been given leadership over three programs (The Collective, Art Focus, and Arty Party) in addition to my regular job responsibilities, which has led me to achieve my current position. Now, I am the Community Programs Coordinator at the museum and creating programming for children, teens, college students and senior adults (with and without disabilities) as well as a key team player in collaborative, educational community events.

Creative Living- Creative Living is an arts program in partnership with Life Senior Services hosted by the Philbrook Museum. Every Wednesday afternoon over a time period of five weeks, senior adults are invited to visit the Philbrook Museum and participate in different activities that explore how people interpret, think about and respond to different types of artwork. Participants will work with each other, local Tulsa artists, and museum staff to creatively respond artwork in the Philbrook galleries through hands-on art making and conversation.
Arty Party – Arty Parties are themed birthday parties designed for art loving kids designed to instill wonder and encourage imaginative thinking through art making and play.

The Collective- The Collective is an arts program created for Tulsa area teens who are interested in the arts, how artists think and work, and forming deeper relationships with their community. Over two months time a selection of junior and senior high school students meet weekly at Philbrook Downtown where they converse with museum staff, local artists, and arts organizations. Each session the participating teens are presented with challenges that explore different artistic themes. The Collective's end goal for the participating teens is to design and facilitate a Philbrook Downtown First Friday experience.
In addition to my job in arts education I am a practicing artist. For as long as I can remember art has always been my passion. I believe that beauty, truth, joy, and healing are discovered through creating, exploring, and sharing art. My wish is that in everything I create (either in art or education), I continually work in pursuit of excellence to visually display God’s beauty and healing power with the hope of benefiting other people.
