Recently I've been exploring the mobile world of Instagram. When I first decided to download the app I thought it would be like another facebook or way to share my life through only pictures. However after playing with it for a while and trying to comprehend hashtags I discovered what an incredible tool Instagram can be for making new connections and stumbling on new resources for my programs.
#ENDALZ
#Alzheimers
#beatalzheimers
By placing these three hastags next to my photo captions I invited others who are using the same hashtags to view my Instagram page. Within a couple months of posting these hashtags next to my photos I discovered new arts organizations from all over the United States whose goal is to help people with Alzheimer's or memory loss dementia. Also, many care partner groups and other Alzheimer Association Chapters are now following me via instagram along with individuals who have direct experience with people who have Alzheimer's disease. What I once thought was a silly new social media trend ended up being a tool for connection with others around the country trying to achieve similar goals.
Listed below are just a few instagram accounts that I've enjoyed following...
I usually almost never encourage people to be on their phone because our society seems to be obsessed with screens these days... (especially during a work day!) HOWEVER I actually do hope that this post has encouraged you to pick up your phone and start browsing these instagram accounts! I hope you find this tool as a beneficial way to connect with others around the U.S. I sure have!
